Films For Action — The Left's Film School, Free Forever

Films For Action is the media arsenal of the network. Founded in 2006 as a nonprofit in Lawrence, Kansas, it's been doing one thing for nearly two decades: cataloging the best documentaries and short films about social change — and giving them all away free.

The crown jewel is the Wall of Films: 500+ documentaries, hand-picked for their power to shift awareness and inspire action, every one watchable free online. Their current front page features the Planet Local Voices series — 33 episodes on ecological economies, local food systems, and healthy communities. The site is organized by subject (activism, climate change, war & peace, consumerism, big media), and it comes with an explicit directive: host screenings, share these films, give copies to your elected officials and teachers.

Co-founder Tim Hjersted called it "probably the most comprehensive collection of videos dedicated to social change online," and the School Library Journal agrees — it's recommended as a teaching resource for media literacy. The local chapter history is real too: film screenings in Lawrence that launched actual campaigns, from killing a Wal-Mart expansion to passing a Peak Oil resolution.
